Wimbledon - Caesar's Camp
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Lying within the 104 year old Royal Wimbledon Golf Club in south west London and mostly buried under the golf course itself is the large univallate hillfort, Caesar’s Camp. First recorded in 1665. Scheduled Monument status in 1932. First excavated in 1937 then again in ’45. Last field investigation in 1965. Last surface investigation in 1997. Dated by pottery finds to 300BC. Urn containing 1st century (Roman) coins recovered. Medieval & post-medieval ploughing has removed any interior traces. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Catuvellauni or Atrebates (Scheduled Monument)
