Castell Pengegin area - Pembrokeshire
Overlooking the River Gwaun, east of the village of Pontfaen lies the inland promontory fort, Castell Pengegin. (Also known as: Pengegin Uchaf camp). This is regarded as a great example of a promontory fort. Just to the south across the valley I found this site. It appears to be a defended enclosure at least. I sent my findings off to DYFED HER and Ken Murphy at dyfedarchaeology.org.uk replied a couple of weeks later to state: “There’s no doubt about that is a defended enclosure. It would be useful to visit as it looks as if it is of schedulable quality. We’ll make a HER record of it.” So, fingers crossed a person or two will be sent to give it the final thumbs-up, like the site I found in Kent.
