DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) To the west of Newton Abbot at Bradley Manor lies the partial contour hillfort, Berry’s Wood. Small excavation in 1962 at a probable roundhouse location found Iron age pottery, an imported glass bead, spindle whorls & saddle querns. Evidence of metal working as well as two successive buildings. Unfortunately, the local council allowed the building firm who constructed the housing estate to the north to dump their rubble on the plateau of the hillfort, even though it was a scheduled monument. No subsequent investigations. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Dumnonii (Scheduled Monument) [Any descriptive text is attributed to the Atlas of Hillforts & Wikipedia websites and any associated archaeological descriptions online which will be credited accordingly.]
