Gaer Wen, Pen-y-Graig
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) 2.3km east of the village of Ffostrasol sits the heavily degraded promontory fort, Gaer Wen. The small cottage constructed in the late 19th century (now ruined) was built against the bank. Remaining bank constructed of fist-sized stones, although in 1990 an 8m length was quarried for stones for road hardcore! It looks like protection for scheduled monuments differ in Wales to the UK. Mind you, as I’ve mentioned before regarding Bulstrode Camp in Buckinghamshire, if you have the coin to bribe the official from the local building planning department then zero fucks are given, and you can do what you like. Saying that, what local authority has the manpower to visit thousands of sites & wag their finger at a farmer saying, “You can’t do that mate” or “Ni allwch wneud hynny mate”. (If Google translate is to be believed). No recorded finds or excavations, hence undated*. (Scheduled monument, or not….)
