

DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) On the ridge to the southeast of Challacombe lies the hilltop fort, Shoulsbury Castle. Possible Romano British site as opposed to Iron Age due to morphology. Earth & Stone banks. Excavated in 1905, 1993 and 2009. Two 17th century rapiers found buried! Bowl Barrow in NE corner named ‘Shoul’s Barrow’ in antiquity. Legend says Alfred the Great held the camp against the Danes.
