Just east of Newgale Beach at the village of Brawdy lies a small multivallate inland promontory fort, Brawdy Castle. Excavations in 1990 (K.R. Dark) found a complex sequence of occupation from pre-defensive Bronze Age use through to the Iron Age (as a hillfort), then Roman then early medieval, medieval and post-medieval use. Last site survey in 2007. Geophys in field west of site found a possible ploughed-out ring ditch and linear features. Listed as a 'Roman Camp' on 1st Ed OS Map.
