Castell Pen-yr-Allt
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Just east of the A487 it the parish of Llantood and hidden in woodland lies the remains of the possible inland promontory fort, Castell Pen-yr-Allt. Later re-use of site as medieval motte & bailey castle. Rock-cut ditch. Motte survives as a 20m wide & 4m high mound with central depression. Nothing is known of the history of the Norman site, which is surprising but it's probable motte & bailey build date is around the end of the 11th century due to morphology. Last site visit in 2007. No recorded excavations or finds, hence undated.
