Castell Henllys
Six Km east of Newport and just north of the A487 past Felindre Farchog lies the now part-reconstructed multivallate partial contour hillfort, Castell Henllys. Heavily documented & excavated since the 1980’s by Harold Mytum. Site construction starts circa 410BC. (18 x C14 dates) Occupied through to circa 190BC. Possible Romano-British occupation (Annex to site). 15 x (diagnostic) La Tène Brooches recovered. Many slingstones recovered. If you are in that neck of the woods its deffo worth a visit. Big car park and facilities (inc, WC & disabled access) and the fry-up of champions, which you’ll need to walk off on the path that winds up the hill to the site. Scheduled monument.
