Prittlewell Camp
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Just above Waitrose and opposite B&Q at Southend-on-Sea lies the heavily degraded univallate hillfort, Prittlewell Camp. Heavy ploughing over the centuries has almost destroyed the site. Surrounding ditch used as a dump in the 1920’s. Trial trench through the rampart in 1929 proved the provenance of the site. Pottery finds in the 19th century (now lost). Possible medieval mound (or motte) on ramparts. Survey by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME) in 1998. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Catuvellauni or Trinovantes (Scheduled Monument)
