Ring Hill Camp
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) In woodland in between the M11 and Audley End House lies the univallate hillfort, Ring Hill Camp. In medieval times it was known as ‘Starbury’. Ramparts partially levelled in the 18th century. Minor excavation in 1854 discovered Roman coins. Railway cuttings have disturbed the west side of the enclosing ditch. The ‘Temple of Victory’ was erected in 1771 in the northeast corner of the site to commemorate the ‘Seven Year War’ between 1756 & 1763. A large house & gardens is located at the east end of the site. No subsequent excavations, hence undated. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Catuvellauni (Scheduled Monument)
