Welsbury Hill Camp
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) To the northeast of Cinderford at Lower Sharpridge lies the unusually ramparted univallate hillfort, Welshbury Hill. A forest hides the site which holds a cairn at its centre. Evidence of Bronze age occupation via surrounding field systems. First rampart construction phase circa 300BC. Possible Romano British features although evidence suggests site abandoned after the Roman invasion. Post medieval quarrying activity. No excavations so dating is uncertain. (Text from Historic England and Heritage gateway sites.) Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Dobunni (Scheduled Monument)
