DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Overlooking Denbury from the southwest and hidden in woodland lies the contour hillfort, Denbury Camp. The interior contains two large bowl barrows. Ploughed-out interior. First recorded in 1888. Last site visit in 2013. Denbury derives from ‘Defna’s burh’ or ‘Devenberie’ which means, ‘fort of the men of Devon’. This is the site where the Dumnonii held against the Saxon advance from the Teign Estuary. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Dumnonii (Scheduled Monument) [Any descriptive text is attributed to the Atlas of Hillforts & Historic England websites and any associated archaeological descriptions online which will be credited accordingly.]
