Foel Drygarn
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Overlooking the village of Crymych around 2.5km to the west lies the major rocky hillfort, Foel Drygarn. Complex multi-phase annexes. Site notable for three Bronze age cairns on domed summit. 227 definite hut platforms and 42 faint possible hut platform sites. Early excavations in 1899 by Rev. S. Baring-Gould found iron age pottery, spindle whorls, fine glass beads and a jet ring from some of these platforms yielding a date range from the prehistoric to Romano-British occupation. Many sling stones recovered, denoting possible battle. RCAHMW Survey in 1988 resulted in a detailed plan of the entire site. Last site visit in 2011.
