Tourner Bury
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) On the southeast of Hayling Island in the Tournerbury Woods Estate lies the univallate level terrain fort, Tourner Bury, which is hidden in woodland. The tide may well have come-up to the embankments before the sea wall was constructed. Excavations in 1959 found Iron Age pottery. Excavations in 1968, 1971 & 75 found Roman to Medieval Pottery. First documented in 1518 as ‘Tornors’, or Land of William de Tornore. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Belgae or Regni. (Scheduled monument)
