Lockerly Camp & Holbury (Camp)
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Bisected by woodland in fields to the east of Lockerly lies the level terrain hillfort, Lockerly Camp. Heavily degraded by ploughing. Test excavation in 1980. Results lost. Undated. Holbury, which lies to the northwest of Lockerly is a contested contour hillfort now hidden in woodland. Sand quarrying has disrupted the entire interior. Unexcavated, hence undated. Significant Roman finds were found at Cadbury Farm a couple of miles away and the ‘bury’ name comes from ‘burh’ or fortified place’, which could have influenced early antiquarians over the provenance of the site. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Belgae (Scheduled monument)
