Hamble Common
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Just south of Southampton at the end of the peninsula called Hamble Point is the contested degraded hillfort, Hamble Common. Two main defensive banks separate Hamble Point with the mainland. There are ample medieval workings, including the remains of the 16th century St Andrews Castle, which lie on the shore. More modern accruements are two WW2 anti-aircraft platforms at the SE corner. Apart from St Andrews Castle there have been no recorded excavations to the common itself, so its provenance is still contested. Last field investigation, 1983. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Belgae or Regni (Scheduled monument)
