Castle An Dinas
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) East of St Columb Major & north of the A30 lies the circular multivallate contour hillfort, Castle An Dinas. Partial excavation in 1961-64 indicated ramparts built by dump construction. Earthwork survey in 2011 suggested late Bronze age to early Iron age date. Two bowl barrows in interior excavated in 1871 but no finds. Post medieval quarry and pond in interior. Site degraded by early 20th century Wolfram (Tungsten) mine and later agriculture. Managed by the Cornwall Heritage Trust since 1989. First written reference 1665AD in Aubrey's Monumenta Britannica. Iron Age tribal association (conjecture based on location): Dumnonii (Scheduled Monument) [Any descriptive text attributed to the Atlas of Hillforts & Historic England websites]
