Cwm Gloyn Camp
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) North of the village of Velindre on the A487 & west of Castell Henllys Iron Age village lie two conjoined inland promontory forts, Cwm Gloyn Li (West enclosure) and Camp (East enclosure). The west enclosure had a test excavation in 2001 and found evidence of a circular building as well as a complex post hole fill yielding a C14 dates 260-280 AD & 320-600 AD. Single spindle whorl suggests Iron Age site. Medieval pottery also recovered. The Eastern enclosure was surveyed during the above test excavation on the opposite enclosure with two lines of stones of a possible palisade. As both sites are under woodland, a full survey was difficult to achieve. Earthwork damage due to badger sets. As you can see, neither are shown on the 1st ED OS map.
