Shipton Hill
DTM- (Digital Terrain Model, i.e. No buildings or foliage) Just south of the A35 and overlooking Loders Cross lies the possible remains of an unfinished contour hillfort, Shipton Hill. An excavation in 1954 found Iron Age pottery, a slingstone hoard, hammer stones flint flakes, scrapers spindle whorls, a bronze sword and a Kimmeridge shale ring. Its status as a hillfort is still contested, regardless of finds and traces of scarping and ramparts.
